🛡️ Women & Child Protection Forum

The Jagratha Samithi (Vigilance Committee) is a local-level protection forum for women and children, working continuously and vigilantly to safeguard their rights and ensure their physical, mental, and personal safety. It works to prevent violence, rights violations, discrimination, and social exclusion against women and children.

The Jagratha Samithi provides immediate intervention and protection in situations requiring urgent attention at the local level. It can also take up neglected cases and issues and facilitate access to the legal protections, support systems, and services available to women and children.

🎯 OBJECTIVES & FUNCTIONS

🔵 1. Protection of Rights

Protect the rights of women and children and ensure strong interventions and appropriate arrangements for addressing violence, discrimination, injustice, exploitation, and denial of rights against them.

🟢 2. Receiving Complaints

Receive complaints involving women and children and facilitate solutions through immediate intervention and appropriate support mechanisms.

🟡 3. Referral & Legal Support

Refer complaints and issues that cannot be resolved by the Jagratha Samithi to the District Jagratha Samithi, Kerala Women’s Commission, other government agencies, and legal aid agencies, and follow up to ensure that the outcomes reach the local level.

🟠 4. Coordination of Services

Coordinate with government agencies, schemes, and other organizations working for the protection of the rights of women and girls. Where necessary, coordinate the activities of other agencies with similar objectives.

🟣 5. Creating a Safe Social Environment

Implement activities to create a safe and supportive social environment where women and children are protected from all forms of violence, discrimination, and other problems.

🔴 6. Community Participation

Form different types of community groups and collective platforms and make effective use of people-centred mechanisms to achieve the objectives of the Committee.

🩷 7. Community Monitoring & Support

Encourage community monitoring, participation, and support for activities related to the protection and welfare of women and children, particularly in situations involving abuse or exploitation.

The Ward/Division-Level Jagratha Samithi is a sub-level body functioning under the Jagratha Samithi established for women and children at the Local Self-Government level.

The general meeting of the Ward-Level Samithi may be organized along with the Grama Sabha or as a separate Grama Sabha, according to local convenience.
