Villiappally Grama Panchayat Launches "Operation Thoofan" Anti-Narcotics Campaign

As part of strengthening community resistance against substance abuse under the leadership of Villiappally Grama Panchayat, the “Operation Thoofan” campaign was inaugurated on September 28, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Villiappally Grama Panchayat Hall by the Hon’ble President, Shri P. P. Prabhakaran Master.

Vice President Smt. Pushpa Othayoth welcomed the gathering. Panchayat Secretary Shri Gopalakrishnan Pillai delivered introductory remarks, and Vadakara Police Station Sub-Inspector Shri Unnikrishnan delivered the keynote address.

The primary objectives of the event are:

  • To raise public awareness about the severe consequences that substance abuse and drug trafficking create in society.

  • To protect children and youth from falling into the trap of addiction.

  • To strengthen collective social interventions against drugs.

The event highlighted that anti-narcotic efforts should not be limited merely to legal actions. Instead, they must move forward through the combined active participation of families, educational institutions, local self-government bodies, health systems, the police force, youth organizations, social groups, and the general public.

The importance of conducting awareness drives among children and youth regarding the dangers of drug addiction was specially emphasized. Since substance abuse adversely impacts an individual's health, education, career opportunities, family relationships, and social life, the event reminded everyone that every family and community plays a critical role in anti-narcotics initiatives.

The program also discussed the need to report any drug-related issues immediately to the concerned authorities without concealing them. Furthermore, it emphasized that rather than blaming or isolating individuals who have slipped into substance abuse, society should ensure they receive the necessary medical treatment, counseling, and rehabilitation support.

Through this initiative, Villiappally Grama Panchayat aims to further intensify anti-drug activities within its jurisdiction, ensure community participation at the ward level, and expand awareness drives. It was also pointed out that parents, teachers, elected representatives, and social workers must remain vigilant to guarantee the safety of children and youth.

Upholding the message “Together Against Drugs – For a Safe Society,” Operation Thoofan proved to be an event that infused fresh momentum into the anti-narcotics efforts of Villiappally Grama Panchayat.

Active cooperation from all sections of society is essential to build a drug-free, healthy, and secure community. Therefore, the program put forward the vital importance of continuously organizing popular awareness initiatives like Operation Thoofan and taking the anti-narcotics message to every household.
